Are you going on a cruise? If you've cruised before, you already know that space in your living area is not huge. If you've never been on a cruise in the past, consider the fact that there is limited space in your stateroom. With that in mind, planning your cruise wardrobe might take some real thinking. From including athletic shoes as part of your footwear to choosing basic items of clothing you can mix and match, here are some ideas that might help you to pack just the right clothes for your upcoming cruise.

Start With Your Footwear - While your cruise might include just relaxing by the ship's swimming pool with flip-flops or sandals by your chaise lounge, consider the other shoes you'll need. For example, if you are going into ports, you might be very thankful that you brought athletic shoes to wear. If you are visiting charming towns that have cobblestone roads, athletic shoes will more than likely be a lot safer for you. If you are hiking in ancient ruins of Mexico, flip-flops or sandals should probably be put aside and athletic shoes worn in their place.

After all, don't you think that, if your feet feel great, you are happy all over? The same goes for the other shoes you'll wear on the ship. Think of taking basic flats that can be dressed up or down depending on the activity of the day. If you absolutely have to wear your high heels, consider buying foldable shoes that you can slip on for dancing if your feet start to hurt.

Mix And Match Your Clothes - Keeping in mind that you will probably have limited space in your stateroom, think of packing basic items that can be mixed and matched. For example, think of packing a classic pair of black slacks that can be paired with casual t-shirts for informal events. Those same black slacks can become very dressy when paired with a silk blouse and elegant jewelry. If you're packing a swimsuit, consider buying a tankini that has boy shorts as the bottom.

Those shorts can then be worn with a long camp shirt for going to lunch on the ship. Do you have a strapless dress that has an elasticized top? Think of wearing it as a skirt, too. You can wear the strapless dress with a shawl in the evening and then wear it with a peasant blouse during the day.
