If the man in your life has decided to take up golf as a sport, you may decide to surprise him with a new golf shirt. However, when faced with a myriad of choices, you may be uncertain as to which one he will need or want. If so, use the following tips to help you choose an appropriate golf shirt.

1.  Find Out the Dress Code

Before you start trying to select the perfect golf shirt, you need to know whether or not the golf course at which he will be playing has a dress code. Especially if he has signed up for a membership with a golf club or country club, they may have strict rules on what can be worn on the course.

For example, many clubs require that men wear shirts that have a collar, such as a polo shirt. These typically must have at least a two or three buttons at the top. Sometimes, a full button-down short sleeve shirt is acceptable, but it depends on the season in which the golfers play.

Also, if the club has a color code, you may need to stick to colors within those boundaries. Some more prestigious clubs do not allow bright, flamboyant colors, so muted tones would be more acceptable.

2.  Choose the Right Fabric

Once you have found out the dress code of the location where he will be playing, the next thing you should look at is the fabric from which the shirt is made. Because a majority of golf courses are in direct sunlight, you do not want to pick a fabric that does not allow for air to penetrate, such as polyester or other synthetics.

Instead, choose a shirt that has a high percentage of cotton. This high cotton content will allow his skin to breathe. However, selecting a shirt that has a small percentage of polyester or rayon will help keep it from wrinkling up too bad while he is playing.

Also, if possible, try to find a brand that makes cotton shirts that have the ability to wick moisture away from the skin. This will help keep him cooler while not soaking the shirt with perspiration on hot days.
